Homag Group sets up a Smart Factory for furniture production

16/04/2018 - 12:06 PM

Homag continues to grow with system solutions and booked a major order worth more than EUR 60 million in the first quarter of 2018. The Homag Group is building one of the most modern furniture productions worldwide in Poland. The order was placed by the company FORTE, which is investing in another production plant. Now the ground has been broken to start building.

In a joint project with FORTE, the Homag Group provides everything from a single source and is responsible for the entire production plant. This consists of several production lines and is a combination of repetitive manufacturing and batch size 1 - highly individualized production according to customer order. Homag's intelligent production control technology links up a total of around 20 cells comprising more than 80 individual machines.

Besides robots, automated guided vehicles also ensure a high degree of automation. The construction of the entire plant will be done in three stages and should be completed in 2021. "We bring in our high level of expertise in digitization and connected machines," explains CEO Pekka Paasivaara. "We turn the 'smart factory' concept into a reality in furniture production."

FORTE specializes in flat-pack furniture and employs over 3,000 people. The company's fifth production plant is being built in northeast Poland. "The Homag Group has convinced us by their digital capability and their future-proof solution. The company is the only supplier that can supply us with everything from a single source", emphasized Klaus-Dieter Dahlem, Production and Technology Director at FORTE.
